Finally got my first scope; a Celestron Onyx 80EDF (500mm f/6.5).

Wouldn't you know it... Right after it arrives, we get several days of clouds and sprinkles!

I managed to get my first couple images, just to get my feet wet (literally).

Both are prime focus, 100% crops through a 40D:

Jupiter & her moons. No PP, just a crop. 7/10 sec, ISO 400. Just before it started getting dark. Wow, I need a mount!

Managed to get a couple shots of the moon tonight, very cloudy, but a few seconds here and there you could see it. 1/180 sec, ISO 400. Some color adjustment and sharpening in PS3.

Congrats Rick, looking very good. Optics look well corrected from what I see at the rim of the Moon. All astro gear comes complete with clouds and/or rain.:D Once the weather breaks I'm sure you'll have a great time with your new addition. Looking forward to seeing your images.

Congratulations on the equipment purchase, Hope the weather improves for you. Very nice shots.I am on a learning curve myself, so I know what it feels like with the never cooperating weather and new equipment. Doug

Thanks Steve & Doug.

I've got that "chomping at the bit" thing going on. It's still cloudy & rainy here in "Sunny Southern California". Supposed to clear up tomorrow...

I'll have to be relinquished to lunar shots until I get some sort of tracking going on. But, it's a good target and a great learning tool.

I do have a diagonal and a 20mm eyepiece so I have opportunity to just enjoy and observe as well.

Clear Skies! (come on, come on, come on)
