i don't own it, but I'm yet to hear any bad things about it.... so you're most likely not gonna regret the purchase.

Yea, I got one from 7dayshop.com. All I need now is some decent weather here in the UK so I can actually use it..

griff2,

How did you find 7dayshop ie how long did it take for delievery etc. The same lens from Jessops is £609 and only £399 from 7ds, so when I order mine I'm sure it will come from the Channel Islands.

I loved this lens, but it never loved me back. I dropped and broke my first one, someone sat on my second one and the AF died(don't ask how the guy missed the lens he was about to sit on, maybe cuz it was in the bag I don't know).I gave up and decied to change my luck with the 2.8. Nevertheless, the 70-200 has always been my fav of the bunch.

It's a great lens, small and light for a 200mm lens.

I bought the 70-200 L for my 300 d, and I do love it. But it does seem to need alot of light, which is hard to come by here in the UK. Solution, but a tripod, in fact I bought a monopod, and that helps with the shutter speed.
My question is, I am replacing my 18-55 that came with the 300d, I can now see how poor it is by comparison, is it worth me shelling out £850 for the EF 24-70 L or does somebody have a better idea?

If you can afford the $$$ for the 24 - 70 then do it. It is an outstanding lens.

By the way, I too bought my lens from the 7day shop and the service was great, but the so called 'international warranty' is actualy valid for USA & Canada. The 7 day shop still have to take back any faulty products under uk law, but my next product will be from Germany. The Canon EWS (European Warranty System) allows me to take faulty products to my regional canon repairer (on the surface at least) and what is more, German law states that products have to have a two year warranty, whatever the manufacturer offers.

I can afford the $$$, but are there alternatives that can save me a few and still give outstanding quality?

You will absoulutely love the lens......when there is enough light. It is definetly a daylight use only lens if you are going to handhold it. In lower light conditions a tripod or monopod will be a must. In very low light conditions you probably won't get much use out of it. I have the f4L and love it. The weight and price make it a great deal.

There are some very good lenses that fit in between the kit lens and the 17-40/4L but there is not much info around as yet

Here is a review of the tamron 17-35/2.8-4
