Ok, Ive had my EOOS300d for about a month now and its hardly left my side... What I have found wanting for is to be better able to zoom into subjects. For instance a local lake to me has this old rowing boat in the middle, half water logged and always covered in birds. The shot looks great to me by eye, but the default lense (18-55?) just doesnt pull it in enough to make it how I want it.

So...

With Birthday fast approaching and also keeping in mind that Ive just spent not fat short of £700 for the camera I was going to ask the wife to buy me a lense. Which one should I ask for and will she pass out at the cost?

EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM - This is a decent lens and Adorama has it listed for $129
EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM - this is an optically better, and faster lens - listed for $299
EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM - Image stabalized - $419
EF 70-200mm f/4L USM - Best so far, L glass, listed at $499

It comes down to how much you have to spend, and the quality of the lens.

A person on another post was feeling blue and bought himself a 70-200 f4. Or, you could get a row boat and row out to get closer.

OR......just the Canon 200 f2.8 prime.........(not as verstaile) but faster.

I still would suggest the 70-200 f4 L though.
