One of our sometime posters Kalle Bjorklid has been listed as one of seven finalists for the Lex van Rossen Award for European music photographers.
Well done and best of luck in the final Kalle.

I think Kalle's work is outstanding - the other guy whose work I am quite impressed with is Danny North - I think the other finalists aren't quite up to the standard of these two.

Thanks guys! :)
I'm really happy to be in the final even if I would'nt win. I consider it a major recognition of my work in any case, and as I've understood the pictures will be shown as a part of the PopView exhibhition both in the Netherlands and London, and the opportunity for that is very nice. It would be very hard to arrange exhibitions abroad otherwise.

If I get the chance I'll be sure to go see the exhibhition :)

I'm asked to visit Noorderslag/Eurosonic as a photographer, still needs to be arranged, but in case I'll visit the festival indeed, I'll definitely visit the exhibition. :)

Just a small update: As anybody who has checked knows, I did not win the price.
However, I got to read the best and most motivating quote regarding my photography:
The most startling work amongst the finalists is a spectacular series of live shots that completely turns the tables on 'celebrity culture'.
In Kalle Bjorklid's images, musicians play support to the audience. He squeezes himself and his camera into the narrow gap between performer and audience so we can see how one affects the other, then uses Photoshop in a subtle but powerful way to combine strong elements of gothic fantasy with Viking history. Each image pays homage to the power generated by live rock music, and his vision of intertwined bodies, flying ropes of hair, orgasmic singers and blessed-out fans is utterly original and riveting.
That text was written by Jill Furmanovsky (Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_Furmanovsky)), the founder of The Rockarchive (http://www.rockarchive.com/).
Very happy with the outcome overall. Plus, some of my photos will be shown in London later this year.

Aha, finally, now I can see why shooting in a staid casino doesn't lend itself to art, thanks to Jill. Grand work, Kalle.
