Which lens case is recommended for the 70-200 F2.8 L IS?
I have had a look and the Lens Case 4 is recommended but I have also seen people use the Lens Case 3. I would like to put the lens in with the hood attached and tripod collar.
Any advise as to which size is better? OR any other brand recommendation?
Thanks!

Closest I came to finding one was the Lowepro Lens Case 4. Here is a link to a review on it: LINK (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lowepro-Lens-Case-4-Review.aspx)
But if I remember correctly when I had this case it was very snug fitting... Too much to my liking so I returned it.

So to be on the safe side, getting the slightly larger lens case 3 would be better?
Thanks.

Well if you read here its sounding like the Lens Case 3 has the same problems but worse... LINK (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lowepro-Lens-Case-3-Review.aspx)

Is the hood on the IS bigger than the non-IS? I have the non-IS 70-200 and it fits good in the LC 4. It's tight but not too tight that you can't pull the lens out.
OTOH, the 24-70 hood is a bit larger and it's hard to pull the lens out the case but not that bad.
A very nice case and highly recommended.

70-200 f/2.8L IS + hood reversed + tripod ring ...
I have this stored in a #3.
Without the tripod ring (collar?), it's a snug fit - slides in and out, just right.
With tripod ring, it's pretty "tight" - have to pull/push it in and out.
Tried to store without ring, but then will forget to pack ring when going out.

It looks like #3 is still too tight a fit as I have a RC2 plate on the bottom of the tripod collar.
Looks like #5? Thanks for the input. I would have been in trouble if I bought based on the recommendation on the Lowepro website. #4 is way too small.
Thanks!

Please forgive my ignorance but what is the problem with the case the lens is supplied in, if indeed you need a case at all? Personally I don't use lens cases but if I did I would just use the Canon case. In design terms I'm not seeing much difference (other than colour) between the Canon and Lowepro cases. What am I missing?

The canon supplied case is a little small to take the hood and the lens and tripod ring with a tripod plate. Mine doesn't really close. I am looking for something larger to protect the lens as I plan on carrying it separate to my backpack, either on my waist or shoulder. The lowepro is quite a stiff case and is well padded. It is also water resistant.
I am using the Canon Case now but can't take the hood with me.

Well I've just dug out my case and my 70-200 f/2.8 IS fitted with tripod ring, RC2 plate and reversed hood fits perfectly in the Canon original L case. The lens goes in first, hood end down, with the tripod foot and plate pointing outwards towards the flap. It is slightly snug but will close fully, with the velcro flap sealed and the zips fully closed and doesn't require any forcing to succeed.
If need be I can even shoot a YouTube video to show it can be done.
EDIT : I assume we are talking about the same Canon case....

Same here, The Canon case is huge! The lens shipped with the hood reversed, of course it will fit back in there especially without the bubble wrap! I can easily fit my 70-200 2.8 IS in the Canon case it came in with the hood reversed, tripod collar on, and an RRS L84 plate on it without any problems and with room to spare.

Now, keep in mind the Canon one is not nearly as well padded or as strong and durable as the Lowepro one, but if you need something now, it will work.
