I've been wandering around from each forum and it seems that not so many of you are interested in food photography. Is there any reasons? I am a food photography enthusiast and I love food! I think it is fun capturing the beauty of food. I hope it's alright to post a new thread of food photography here.

The topic comes up spradically but if you search there is a fair number of historical posts. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/search.php?searchid=3727744) Also check out Lou Manna's website (http://www.loumanna.com/) -- he has lots of useful information as well as a book on the subject which I have read.

BTW - nice image and welcome. Dennis

Yes, yes, yes, I got my strobes mostly just to work on food/flower and tabletop photography. I recently bought Lou Manna's book another called Food Styling for Photographers by Linda Bellingham and Jean Ann Bybee, have only browsed them so far, I've lots of food photo experience over the years doing commercials but we always had a food stylist doing the prep so now it's my time to learn.

Surely Lou Manna has been a favourite amongst fellow foodie bloggers. I come from New Zealand and we have our own faves, like Kieran Scott, Ian Batchelor, and Cato-Symonds. Thank you for the compliment and the reply :)

ha ha ha! you sound really enthusiastic. how about making a topic here, what we're going to shoot? like, let's say... fruits, food, cakes, cookies, whatever, in black background? agreed?

Jannie, is it hard to work with food stylist? I mean, you do not need to prepare the food or choosing props to make it right, do you? Would you like sharing your experience here? I mean, I cook, I photography the food that I cook and then eat them (or get someone else to eat them). It's quite a work, you see, but hey... I am learning to be a food stylist too, although boy it's quite expensive with all of those props which is now collecting them has become a hobby... goodness knows... hehehehe thanks for the reply,

YUP!! I got my 50mm f/1.4 from Canon as my 'weapon' to capture food. Great blurry image on the background, really is a chemical stuff with the tone of colours whatever you choose to be a backdrop. Even a simplest food styling like this can be really appetizing, don't you think so? This looks like an ice cream cake to me

Hi!! Well, I guess you can just post any food photo you've done and let's all see. You can't judge your work by yourself, I mean you've got to ask the audience. Now, what are you waiting for? Go on!

nice work. I quite like a vertical angle for this because the food has similar shape and texture. Perhaps, a minimalist style will work. But anyway, style is all about personal, really.

I just purchased a tripod so I can start working on some food photography!
My roommate owns a restaurant so I was gonna try to get a nice shot of the "hot" items so we can put them up on the website...

I shoot in waves. Sometimes, it's nothing but food; other times, I don't touch food for months.
I did these yesterday. Got so many good ones, it's damn near impossible to pick. These are just some.

I messed around with light painting. Used a large, cop-style Maglite. Let Photoshop do some auto-color on it. My jury's still out on whether I like the warmer one better or not. I'm pleased with both.
