I just got some pocketwizard II's. I bought four, one out of the box won't even turn on (tried different batteries).

I put one on a flash, connect the cable that came w/ it and then put one in the hotshoe of my camera.

i put them on the same channel and shoot the camera nothing happens. however if i push the test button, they fire.

I gotta say i am pretty bummed about these things so far...

Another one? Maybe I should add this next to the older one and just title it "Part Deux"

did you figure out the one that wouldn't turn on? is it DOA? or were you able to get it working?

glad you figured out the backwards issue

_aravena, i am confused by your comments?

PiRHO: yeah it seems to be working now...i think the battery was angled wrong or something but it seems to come on fine....

I may sell these and get some radio poppers though so i can have ETTL....

How much you want for them? I currently have three, use them a lot, and love them... but could always use one or two more.

guess I get in line after Ron. LOL
I am interested in something to get my flash off camera, but I haven't done enough research on which option yet...

Glad they all worked out for you.

PW are indispensable IMO. They are the gold standard. Radiopoppers are a completely different beast, only work with ETTL.

hahaha, yup that is the real issue. I took a look at those radio poppers... and I'm not convinced... I don't mind shooting manual... and in the cases where I will be using off camera flash I'm pretty sure I would want to be shooting manual, so having to use ETTL might be bad :(

but, doesn't matter I have to make more money before I can get any more camera equipment. LOL

yeah i have always wondered about using ETTL or TTL for off cam when using a brolly or soft box.. doesnt the use of modifiers hampen the effect of the ETTL? wouldnt the light output be less than needed?

yeah, that is what I'm thinking but I really need to learn more about all that jazz before I get to the point of buying in.

In a nut shell here is how I like to decide manual vs ETTL... if it's a dynamic (moving) subject and unpredictable from shot to shot where they will be when you shoot in relation to the light then ETTL whenever feasable. If it's static or predictbly at the same distance to the light then manual all the way.
