I am going to the races this afternoon to watch my uncles horse go around. i would love to get some photos of the race. I have only just got my camera and have not had much of a chance to experiment. Can I just use the Sports mode and Autofocus to take decent pistures or do I need to do it manually, if so, what setting should I use. Sorry If I sound really dumb....but, hey, I am.

If there are no replies before I have to leave I will just try Auto settings and see what I come up with.

To start off, please know that I'm not at all experienced in taking action shots, and I'm basing all my advice off what I've read in the past on these boards.

I believe sports mode automatically locks your cam into ISO 400 which may, or may not be enough to get the kind of shots you need. Plus, depending on the amount of light, your glass may be just a tad too slow. It's possible, don't get me wrong...especially if you have a good amount of light. The main advantage to Sports mode on a 300D is that AI Servo works correctly where it doesn't work correctly in any other mode. If it were me (and I'm not experienced at all in action shooting), I think I'd shoot in Tv, ISO 800 or less (lower the better), and like 1/500 or so.
