My 6-year-old Rottie was bitten by a brown recluse three weeks ago. If he would leave the wound alone, it may have healed a week ago, but there is NO stopping a Rottie from doing something he wants to do!

Anyway, I was checking my lights for a shoot this weekend and of course shoved the pups in front of the camera.

Even though we were playing around, I thought I'd share the photo as a reminder to other pet owners.

The wound is about four inches long. It started as a scrape-looking lesion about 1/2 inch across. That grew to a nasty, oozing pustule. Then the fur fell out. Then the second lesion appeared.

It's on the mend now, but it's been a course of antibiotics, two ruined e-collars, two visits to the vet, and a small fortune in bandage materials!

Enjoy, spider-bitten Rottweiler, Kirby.

Those eyes! Love it. And the story is cute. It looks like he is on the lookout for another spider.

I trust Kirby enjoyed some good treats throughout the ordeal.......you know, for the pain and suffering :)

Poor thing, what a charmer with those eyes. I hope he gets well soon.

I'm hoping the wounds don't scar. Front left foreleg will be a little obvious for a bigscar like that. Vet says it's 50-50 if the fur regrows.

And treats are a novel idea....the biggest treat I've thought about is my foot up his ____!

The other day I rebandaged three time in 30 minutes. I finally pulled out the aluminum foil and put it over the bandages like armor. That didn't seem bad enough so I added duct tape!

Lasted four hours - so I don't know who won that one!

sounds like he needs a lampshade.... lol great shot.. I wouldnt worry about scars, my Coonhound Sam has scars all over his head from fighting and playing ruff.. he's still cute as a button!!

awww, poor fella. Maybe when you can't keep an eye on him, someting to distract the attention would be good. I suggest mixing oatmeal with a little peanut butter, and putting it in a Kong, then freezing it. Might not help too much, but at least he will be a bit more happy.

Hmmm, freeze the PB in the Kong?!? <evil smile> I like your thinking!

I'll have to pick up a Kong in town tomorrow - they only last a day or so with him, when he's interested in them. The PB will help! Thanks for the idea!
