I usually stick to the Performing Arts photo sharing section and also make comments on a few other sections around this place.

I had reason to post something on the People sharing section and have also made some comments on other people's posts there. I asked for feedback on what I thought was an interesting set of photos and have had very little comment. Perhaps my photos aren't that interesting; if that's the case I'd rather know than be kept in the dark.

I offered some constructive criticism on a few other people's photos but it seems to have been ignored and once I started to look at other posts in People most comments seem to be about giving the photographer a pat on the back rather than offering suggestions on how to improve their technique.

Is it just me or is there a culture in the People section that doesn't encourage constructive criticism?

Part of the problem (from what I've seen and what goes through my mind when I see an image) is that there often is nothing wrong with a photo, but nothing particularly interesting or noteworthy about it either. I can't offer any advice on how the image can't be improved, but it doesn't seem right to do nothing more than say "it's blah to me." So personally I tend to comment only on shots I really like (to encourage the shooter) or on shots I believe could be improved and would be worth improving.

I find it very irritating to have to scroll through endless repetitive praise, to find if someone has made the same comments as I intend to make, so that I may keep the threadquality as high as possible. Also irritating is the seeming lack of interest in C&C from the threadstarter/photographer, because the most you read is "Thanks guys!", instead of answering to C&C.

I'm glad I'm not alone!
