View Full Version : Stick with A-75 or go for higher res?

I just purchased my first digital camera, an A-75.
I did so due to the great reviews that it got and the low price tag.
I bought this camera so that I could breath some new life into my photography and I really didn't expect that I would like it as much as I do. Since I've gotten it my old film SLR has been left behind mostly.
But now that I take this little camera more seriously I can't help but wonder if I should have bought one of the other higher res models. Am I having an inferiority complex about 3.2? Will I regret it and miss the higher res or flip screen?

It really all depends on what kind of pictures do you want.
Do you need anything bigger than an 8x10?
do you want to crop alot from your pictures.
if your never going to print anything bigger than an 8x10 do you really need a higher res camera? probably not.
if you dont want to crop alot from your pics do you need more res than 3.2mp, again probably not.
Another thing to consider would be storage space. I have an s60, before that i used to have an a75 and now most of my pictures are almost double the size that they were.
just a few things to consider, however having said that is it going to hurt you have have a higher rez camera that what you really need. Of course not.

I was wanting a higher res camera because my pictures were looking sort of soft on my computer screen. But then I read here somewhere that if you use iphoto on a mac it displays your photos at a lower res than they really are. Something like 180lpi.
I'm going to have another look with photoshop and see if they look better.

Are you using iPhoto '05? The images look soft with iPhoto but are sharper once you import it in PS.
I use an A70 but I really do need a higer res because I do so much cropping on macro objects I can only shoot from some distance away.

Your so right! My photos look much better in photoshop.
I'm using iphoto 4. I was using it to zoom in and inspect detail with my new camera but it did a rather poor job I think. I was a little disapointed in my new camera at first but now I am quite pleased.
The real test will be tomorrow when I get my test prints (8X10) back from the shop.
Someone else posted a message that they we're not too thrilled with the results of 8X10 so I am excited to see the results.
