View Full Version : Shooting at night, exposure compensation?

I spent a while shooting at night for the first time yesterday. I got some acceptable shots (will post later for critique!) but noticed that the exposure level/compensation on my 20D was moving as I adjusted aperture/shutter in M mode.

Is this a guide/advice against the internal metering? Is the camera adjusting my actual settings and adding exposure compensation, in which case I should turn it off so I can make more mistakes!

In M the level will move to the left or right as you underexpose or overexpose as the camera see's it. It will not compensate for the adjustments you are making it is only offering advise.

In the creative modes it will adjust the exposure based on where the setting is.

Thanks. I can now focus on using that advice, rather than worrying!
