Sure hope that I am posting this in the correct place! This is what I do when its raining.

We, my ten year old daughter and I, are currently working on a project that is a gift for my dad. We have converted our family 35mm slides to digital and in the process of scanning and editing old family pictures. This is long and tedious task if you could only imagine. My plan is to have them printed into two books. One book will be the 35mm slides (abt. 1970-abt. 1980) then the older pictures in another book (before 1970 back to abt. 1905)

Below are images of camera's that have been passed down and the plan is to include these images in the books. The 35mm Yashica, is the camera that dad used during and after Vietnam War and all of our 35mm slides were taken with this camera. The UCS (United States Camera) belonged to my grandparents.

I thought that it may be fun to post your hand me downs or any camera gear the you have collectible over the years. Also if you have any images taken with the gear please share.

Be gentle first attempt with a light box.
Mark

What an absolutely lovely idea! Can't help you with any images, but wanted to say how very nice this is as a concept (and as a genealogist how jealous I am that nobody in my family has done this!).

I think it is a great idea and I am jealous that you have the images to do the book with... I have very little photographic evidence of my family/history.

Genealogy and editing pictures is what started my interest in photography.

Whenever I visit relatives, I take my all in one printer with me. I can san to a CF card without being hookup to a PC. I have a copy of most of the old family pictures. Then to the PP, burn to CD and share with all of my family. That way everyone has a copy of all the old pictures. I know that it sounds easy but its not. Very time consuming. I have been very lucky and had a great grandmother that lived to 94 and died four years ago. She kept everything and must have been the original scrap booker. I have five volumes six inches thick that she put together in the early 70s. The gynecology information dates back to the early 1800s and contain newspaper clipping, obits. funeral programs, letters, cards, post cards, family pictures that go back to the early 1900s.

Have spent the last six months putting the information from just two volumes and not even close to being done.

Because being behind a camera. ;)

My wife just last April visited he aunts and uncles in NY. On of them had about 6 old photo albums. You know the ones with black pages and red covers. She took them to a Kinko's office or something like that and had them scan a page at a time. They all are b/w images starting from about 1910 when they came to the US from Italy. She has been pulling out each photo and labeling them. The quality is amazing. They look as good as the original.

This was the family camera when I was a kid. It was passed down to me years ago, but it's since been lost, or simply thrown away.
It used 620 roll film which yielded a 2 1/4 X 3 1/4 negative. The flash bulbs were about the size of a household lightbulb, and you had to remove the paper from the AA size batteries before installing them in the camera.
It actually took pretty good pictures too, that's me in 1951.

Great pictures, these pictures seem to me to have more character. I guess they are like old cars :) Very nice.
