As far as I know, both the Canon and Sigma 20mm primes cost more than $300. Of the two, I would choose the Sigma for its lower price and faster aperture.

There's always the EF-S 18-55 for $90 or Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon EOS for $100 but both are for 1.6x sensors only. About the best you'll do in your price range.

There aren't many choices for ultra wides in the $150-200 range. The best you can do is try to pick up a 17mm Tokina AT-X Pro off ebay, which can occasionally be found in the low $200s.

Like Doc said, there's the russian manual focus/manual aperture Zenitar 16mm which I have, and the Peleng 8mm. You can also save a little by getting the Zenitar or Peleng from kievcamera on ebay, which typically go for around $130 and $175 new, respectively. I got my Zenitar from him and had no problems.

For zooms there's the 18-55 EF-S USM for $140 (20D/300D), the Sigma 18-50 like Hellashot mentioned (10D/20D/300D), the Tokina 19-35 for around $150, or Tamron 19-35 for around $200. I think that's about it in that price range.

What exactly are you going to use the wide lens for? Because for landscape you don't want too wide as it will distort the edges.

since i have 28mm on a 1.6 crop, i must have at least 20mm (that will be kinda 32mm)

the russian are not my kind of what i want....looks bulky and cheapy.
(yeah i know my budget is low, but if i cant afford a good one, i wont take any)
the 18-50 is an option, i need to know how much its fast and sharp compared to the EFS 18-55. the tokina looks good, but i saw its for nikon only ?! i'll check out the tamron.

The Tokina 17mm f/3.5 ATX Pro is available for both Nikon and Canon mounts (just make sure you buy the right version). This is one heck of a lens - built like a tank, very sharp (even wide-open) and reasonably wide on 1.6 crop body (about 27mm).

the russian ....looks bulky and cheapy.

Got the 8mm last week -It is neither bulky nor cheapy - it is small and incredibly sturdy, very well made and feels really good (built quality miles better than 50 1,4).
And it is very sharp. The real thing.

What do you mean - the "right" version ? The model is Tokina 17mm f/3.5 AT-X Pro. And it should be MUCH better than the Sigma 18-50.

To be honest with you, Im really happy with the "wide" part of my kit lens... even though there is a bit of distortion, the sharpness is pretty good even wide open.
