My son is in Iraq (Staff Sgt) and the small camera he took with him is developing a problem with the LCD screen cracking. I think its the sand and the heat. Anyone with experience in using cameras over there? I know a lot of military people track this site and I was hoping for some advice on what to look for as a replacement.

Might take a look at the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW. Claims to be Shockproof, Waterproof, Crushproof,Freezeproof and Dustproof. I don't know much about Olympus cameras but the word is that it's one tough camera made for harsh conditions. Just google it, and youll get all ya need to know...and best of luck to your son, hope they get to come home soon.

I agree with 10magapixel on this one. The Olympus would be an excellent choice, by far. They make a number of small cameras that can survive just about any hostile environment. The Glock equivalent of the camera world! ;)

Thank you, too, Miyagi-san. The camera is on order and I sent a note to his wife to get the right card. B-H had a great price of $272 and she should have it in about 5 days. I knew someone on this site would have the answer - you guys are the best.
