I am new to this 20D world and want to hear from people about the A-DEP mode....is it suitable for group wedding shots (i.e. the wedding party, bridesmaids, groomsmen etc.)? If so, any setting recommendations for afternoon, outdoors, in good shade? I am planning on using my Tamron AF28-75/2.8 XR Di much of the time but also use 50mm/1.4.
Thanks Again,
Maureen

A-DEP is suitable, but I've not used it much at weddings. In typical wedding group shots, all subjects are roughly equidistant from the camera, so there isn't much depth that has to be covered. In very large group shots, you might have multiple rows of subjects, so this might work here. However, I would be more tempted to get the multiple rows squeezed together more tightly so that depth isn't that much of a factor.

More likely, I would set my camera to A-DEP, just to see what settings it will try to suggest. Then I would think about that and plug those or something close to those into P mode, if possible.

I've tried using this mode on the 300D with mixed results. If there's enough light available, you're better off just stopping down the lens to ensure good depth of field.

Thanks..... will play around with this a little and see what happens. Thanks again.

A dep uses all the autofocus sensors to determine hyperfocal settings. Usefull when you have a large difference in foreground and background distances. Hardly needed for group portraits as already pointed out.
