Any good area's to go, town's?? villages??
Good spots along the lake for Sun rise/set.
I'll be staying just for two days, mid December. I'll be bringing my gear and need to be kept off the beer, tables and slots in Harveys Resort where I'm staying! (South Lake Tahoe / Stateline)

Yep coming from the UK.
Coming via Chicago then Reno. Spending 2 days driving after Tahoe to Vegas via Death Valley.
Normally rent a regular car, but just incase the weather is somewhat "seasonal" I got a Grand Cherokee Jeep this time :)
I'll just take it all as it comes as for good locations.

Lake Tahoe has developed so much over the years, it is tough to get near the lake at lots of places (like in the old days). I always find the Nevada side to be prettier, and there is a state park to allow you close to the lake. Morning is better, shooting east to west. Driving in on route 431 from Reno can be very scenic. Also, coming in route 50 from Carson City is nice. I've seen some nice sunsets from route 50. Zephyr Cove, down near South Lake Tahoe, used to be a very nice area, but I haven't been there in some years.
If you have time and interest, Virginia City is a fun old-west type town. Google it for more info.
Death Valley is one of the most spectacular places you can see. Lots of good 4 x 4 roads and hiking trails, plenty of colorful rocks and fascinating sand dunes. A week there might not be long enough. It is very remote, so plan carefully where you will stay.

Emerald Bay State Park with Vikingholm on the SW corner of the lake is fantastic. If you hike (3 miles uphill starting at the Ponderosa Ranch), you can get fanastic shots from the Flume Trail or get there a little easier via Marlette Lake. For sunsets, Lake Tahoe State Park on Nevada SR28.
