so the popular emo band kicked off a two-date small club tour @ Boston's Harpers Ferry last night, and the place was filled w/ shrieking teenaged girls. it was sort of a nightmare to shoot...the club's capacity is ~400, and people had to get wristbands just to get the chance to buy tickets. i was shooting it for spin.com and wasn't worried about getting in, but there was no security pit and i had to wait in line just like everyone else. in the rain. and some people had been lined up since 7AM.

by the time i eventually got in, the room was ~1/3rd filled, with of course the people density towards the front the highest. i wormed my way to the far left and got about 3-4 people back, in a decent enough position to get some shots of the opening band. before FOB got on, i made friends w/ the people in front of me and sweet-talked them into letting me get up front for the first song, which was nice. unfortunately my 5D is still out for repair (well, it returned today), so the 24mm end of my brick wasn't as wide as i'd have liked on the 30D. oh well. also, the lighting @ Harpers is not too good...much too localized and bright, making even exposures impossible.

here's the review at Spin (http://spin.com/):

#1 some die-hard fans:

Lucky you!

#4, 5, 6 and 7 for me.

Harper's is tough, but I like it more then most places. Maybe because there isn't as much red light.... hmmm

Anyway, great shots.

haha 3 is priceless. That's great. Amazing job in a less than stellar shooting environment. I couldn't hang with the big boys on this one at all. =]

Ha! For once, I don't envy you. Looks like you had a little bit of competition too.;)

#3 is fun. (As an image, probably not as a situation to be in ;))

#5 and 6 are nice. Good job in these circumstances.

Looks like you didn't have too much room to work up there! Great set.

Good job under difficult conditions - I hope you had your earplugs in to cut out the screaming girl factor.

I like the queue - it sets the scene well #3 and #7 are pretty good shots.

I remember shooting My Chemical Romance at a festival and in the photo pit I couldn't hear the first three songs due to the screaming girls.

Sweet venue with a stage so low you can shoot over the monitors and fill speakers!
