Last night my camera club had a raffle and I won 2 hours in a local photogs studio :D

I am very interested in portrait work and am getting a strobist set up as my christmas gift this year.

I have until the end of the year to use this time but seeing as I've never used lights other than my flash (and never off camera) I feel very intimidated.

I know I should keep my expectations low but what should I plan on doing?

I would imagine the photog will be there keeping an eye on his equipment, is there any way you can turn this into a learning event? Instead of making big plans about the shots you want to get, give him a call and see if he'd spend that time with you teaching you about lighting.

If your shooting models then forget about it. Hair & make up is about 1 1/2 hours for experienced one, otherwise enjoy your 10minutes of camera time :)

This is what I'm hoping to do but I had a choice between a class with a photog i'd never heard of and 'studio time'. I decided to take the studio time - I hope I can sort of incorporate the two when I talk to him tonight...

Well, how about asking him to be your model and ask him for great lighting suggestion. You win :)
