My first SLR, first non-disposable camera, actually. This is amazing. I have shot about 250 pics already, 99% havent turned out well. But here are two that are ok..1st on is a little dark, though.

I was sitting outside with my magnifying glass looking at your pics on my laptop, and I accidently burned a hole in my screen. Pls try to make them a bit bigger.

Must be better now, cause they are big enough for me. Good job for the very first time, keep shooting!! You might want to keep the sun to your back so the shadows are off the dogs face.

Looks like maybe you got owned by the camera meter? All that white can fool the meter. Needs a little brightening up.

Caesars has a Digital Rebel.
That is a cute dog by the way and getting around all that white is a tough thing to do.

Thanks for the complements.
Sorry about the first time around, pics were small...I didnt think I clicked "submit reply"....ah well.
I look forward to being a part of this forum and learning how to take pictures that look as good as many of those I see here everyday.

When shooting a subject with a very bright background (such as snow) I believe that you can use the center focus first on the subject, half press to lock focus and exposure, the compose shot and take the pic. May depend on the mode you are shooting in too. I shot a night shot last night with my 10D that was just the opposite - too dark by the center and had to lock on a brighter spot in the foreground then frame the shot.
Good luck! You're gonna love the SLR...
