hello all, a buddy of mine from work requested me to shoot the album art for the hip hop cd hes recording.

The thing is, i dont know if i have equipment good enough to do it. my 50 1.8 is having focus issues so ill be using my 70-200 f/4l most likely.

One thing he wants to do is to have a street light illuminating him with light falloff on the side of him which is to be as dark as possible to put the song titles.

What concerns me is will i be able to do something like this without a flash? also the shot of course will be at night and i dont have a flash aside from the on camera.

He needs about 6 total shots and wants them to be done mostly at night but im not sure if ill be able to do this with just an on camera flash (harsh lighting of course is a concern)

Also, if anyone has done this type of a shoot before would you care to post some examples so i have ideas about poses.

Or seeing as how i have no flash, and no IS on my lens should i just call the shoot off?

A few off camera stobes would be ideal. I would probably just avoid using the on camera flash unless you really need some fill, but I think with creative use of ambient light you should be okay. If you need to just use available light, you'll probably have to look around to find the right location. I would look for a light that is closer to the ground...like maybe 10ft or so, that should give you decent fall off. Maybe look for a light on the side of a building or something. You should be able to get a lot of your "look" in post processing with dodging and burning and gradients and such.
