View Full Version : If you had the chance to shoot one thing in history, what would it be?

I've been wondering. If i had the ability to bring my camera and one lens (I'd probably buy a 30/1.4 and use it) and have one memory card/battery to shoot one event/time in history, what would I shoot.

For me, I'm thinking a medieval lifestyle

Shootout At The OK Corral...

I've always been fascinated by it and the events before and after it took place.
I've always wanted to know definitively what went down...

Interesting question. There's probably a ton of things that would be cool to capture from dinosaur's to the upsized Titanic, dont know, let me think about it.

Interesting choice but I'd be afraid that if one went too far back in time, one might end up burned as a witch... ;)

Yeah it's awesome. Not only does it fix everything I own, it makes it less likely to get stolen.

Honestly, I can't just think of ONE in particular. How many famous people from history would you like to have photographic proof of? Dinosaurs, or extinct animals, or vegetation? We as a common people just witnessed history being made tuesday night, but how about before that? I was born in the year of our lord, nineteen hundred and sixty-three, how many historical events have happened since that year? Or better yet, before?

That link is actually interesting reading...

Never knew that the term "Duck Tape" was originally correct and not simply a mispronunciation of "Duct Tape." Originally, it was much more akin to Gaffers than the plasticky stuff sold in hardware stores today...

I'd shoot who ever or what ever in the process of building the pyramids.

Ohhhhhhhhh, yes.

Um, yep. I'm finding it very, very hard to narrow down. There are mass migrations, I'm sure things in natural history that are hard to document in any way because of the limited technology (tetonic plates moving apart, etc.) and yeah...I'm finding it hard to think of something specific.

Do you think you would need flash for that?

I'm thinking about the things that have gone without proof or a definitive answer for centuries. The actual moment that dinosaurs went extinct. The birth, death and resurrection of Christ. The extinction of the Mayans. JFK assassination. Hoffa's disappearance. What would it be like to answer some of those questions.

Then again some things are better left a mystery.

I work with someone from time to time who's Father was at Deely (sp?) Plaza the day JFK was shot. In fact he's clearly visible in one of the pieces of film that always get dragged out whenever they do a new documentary on the subject. IIRC, he was between the ledge from where A. Zapruder was filming and JFKs limo so his back was to the grassy knoll.

I guess he's asked his Dad over and over again what he saw, heard, felt, etc...

Never fails, same answer every time: 3 reports, some commotion and the car took off like a bat out of hell.

He apparently never saw anything else, never felt anything go past him from behind and never saw anyone up in the bushes or behind the fence.

Now that's being an eyewitness to a major historical moment...!

basically any time in history where the camera didnt exist LOL - i'd get a large group of people together and show them a photo of themselves, then take a picture of their reactions
then run like hell...

I've thought of lots of historically significant things I would've liked to shoot... but what keeps coming back to the forefront for me... I would like to have been able to document my grandmother's WWII experiences. She was a WAC during WWII. She was a photographer... I'd like to follow her through her experiences... As she was dying in the early spring of 2007, I spent many hours with her hearing her stories and experiences. The entire reason I have my XTi today.. is because she and my parents bought it for me, she was not a rich woman by any means and her entire estate minus $25 went to buy me that camera... it wasn't enough so my parents put in the rest....

I'd like to document HER... the years of my grandmother I didn't know/meet....

Thanks! She was an amazing woman... This is a picture of her... From WWII...

Her job was to photograph accidents involving military vehicles (of any sort.. planes, transports etc) She was stationed stateside. She shared lots of stories with me.... I would've liked to document photographically the stories she shared...

The asteroid impact of 65 million years ago. (just before it hit, of course)

But then there would be the problem of uploading the pictures before everything would go kablooey.

Or maybe I could have been in a orbiting spacecraft and seen it from afar....

The death and Resurrection of Christ. If I only had the One Camera/batter/Card... That would be it. 3 Day time frame to document the event that changed the course of the history of the World
