I got myself the 300 f2.8 L IS this week and have just been itching to get out with it. For my first day of using this, I am impressed with the results. It is without a doubt the sharpest lens that I own.

Holy Cow!! those are fantastic. That one with the 1.4TC is something else I looked into his eye one second to long and got hypnotized next thing I found myself opening a beer. Boy the power of owl eyes.   Beautiful shots. Lens looks great.

I had my new lens out yesterday, and although I was also impressed with its speed and sharpness, not one of my photos ended up looking like a grey owl. Everything I shot looked more like yellow locomotives.

I might have to send it back to Canon. I was really hoping for some of those razor-sharp GGO shots.

You obviously got a bad copy Tom. I'd send it up here for us to check out.

For some reason I still can't get these guys to fly directly at me like Ian can. I'll keep trying as long as they hang around here though.

I think it's time we had an intervention for Sheldon. His new lens addiction is getting out of hand. I feel partly to blame after talking to him about the 500mm. But, who would have thought he would spiral out of control so quickly? :D :D

Your pics look great!! i like the eye in the second shot. It looks like a marble. Wow is that ever sharp for a photo of a flying bird.

Keep the GGO pics coming. How long will they stay on the island? What are you going to do next winter if the vole population recovers?

Holy Schmoly, Sheldon, those shots are excellent. Just awesome.

Now I want a 300 f/2.8 lens, too.

BTW, if you want the owls to fly at you, go get some poutine and rub it all over your body, from head to toe and leave it there for a day or two.

The owls figure that with all that cheese, there's bound to be amouse nearby.

That isn't what Ian does, however. He confided in me that he rubs chicken fat all over his extremities and in his hair (such as it is).

wow
they really really are fantastic shots
all of them
I especially love the profile, if an owl has one (with the flat face) in the first shot
what a great capture
they all are wonderful shots. love the close ups
the last is just terrific too. what an eye

it's like as though the owl is knitted into the shape.
very beautiful

great congratulations
and many happy happy hours with the new lens

Pbase sux - you should go to here http://www.onlinephotographers.com/gallery/index.php and rent some space. It's only $24.95 a year for 500 MB. Tell them I sent ya. ;-)

Having been out for two days now with this new lens, all I can say is WOW. It is amazing.

Is frapping actually a word??

"Frapping" is a setting on my blender...
It's the highest setting ( eleven ) so it is the best ;)

As for Yiles? We need to excuse Scottes,. he seems to have a problem with spelling,.. I see it in his posts all the time...
