I will be getting a 5D Mark II kit with the 24-105 lens, a 100-400 lens and a 580 Speedlite. I want either the Lowepro Nova 170-AW or the 180 AW. The !80 is quite a bit bulkier than the 170, but I wonder if I can fit the above items into the 170.
Does anyone have either of these two shoulder bags that can give me some advice?

I'd get the 180. The 100-400 is a big lens and the 580 flash is bulky too. You'll also want some room to grow, so having the extra space will be helpful.
You may also want to look at the Lowepro Stealth Reporter line. I have the 400AW and fit all the gear in my signature line. In addition to being all weather, they have a sealed zipper down the middle of the top which makes grabbing your gear very handy. The ideal situation is to actually look at and handle the bags -- there are so many available, that's the only way to make sure you really like the one you get. Good luck!

Are you sure you want to carry all that weight on one shoulder? Have you thought about a backpack option?

the taller 170 is a plus for your 100-400
i have the old nova5 and it fits my 80-200 2.8L just right (same size as the 70-200 2.8 nonIS)
i think the 70-200 and 100-400 have similar heights

I'd vote for the stealth reporter series as well

I'll check out the backpacks. Good idea. However, it may be easier to get stuff out of a shoulder bag, change lenses, etc., rather than having to take off a backpack. The Stealth bags look very tempting, perhaps better constructed than the Nova. I'll check them out at B&H tomorrow.

if you are dead set on a lowepro shoulder bag, do check out the new Classified Series. They are quite roomy and easy to shoot out of. They offer a somewhat *slimmer* profile.
I played around with the Classified 160 at PhotoExpo and I'm thinking this may be just the ticket for my day to day bag.
I'll probably be using it with my gripped 5d, 17-40l and the 70-200L f4, plus all the assorted crap I usually bring to work...notebook...magazines, pda etc etc.
Give it a shot.
