How do people take photos of parades at night? I tried it again last night and they came out terrible! I was standing on a 2 meter high raised platform to the side of the parade, with a good view of the road very close.
The problem I had is with lots of bright lights on the floats, not always pointing at the people, the exposure was often incorrect. I was in Av used partial metering and sometimes used exposure lock on the part of the scene I wanted correctly exposed, but it didn't work very well - lots of pics came out exposed for the wrong thing. The 50mm F1.8 was also too slow to focus for this.
Next time I think i'll be on the ground with the rest of the crowd, so I can move around more easily. Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated.
