Lots of shadows in this set of Girl Talk photos since I was in the thick of it, but I think I did alright despite that. I shot these with a Canon 30D, rotating between three lenses (Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 85mm f/1.8, Sigma 30mm f/1.4).

I had a hell of a time shooting, it was fun but there were always obstacles, I had to keep wiping off my lens because of the fogging and changing lenses was perilous to say the least.

I must be getting old. It took me a minute to figure out why it looks like he was leaning over to puke.

Back in my days, they used to flip through actual vinyl..... ;)

Ha, yeah, it's an unusual sight to see if you don't know what the context is. He actually isn't a DJ as such, although he does play dance music. What he does is more like elaborate sound collages created through dense sampling.

It doesn't sound like much, but his shows are wild. At this one, so many people were on stage dancing that it collapsed and busted a water pipe.

if you do not mind....which shots were taken w/what lens. I like each of them and am secretly..(wife does not know) looking for a fast indoor/low light lens.

Sure, those three were all taken by different lenses:

1) Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II ($85 new)
2) Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM ($405 new)
3) Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Telephoto ($355 new)

I would say that the 50mm is an essential lens for low light situations, although it isn't exactly durable. Expect it to fall apart after about a year's worth of use. But, considering how cheap it is and how reliable its results are, it's worth the cash.

They're all affordable compared to some of the more high-end lenses out there and there are certainly better (and more expensive) alternatives, but these lenses have done me well for concert/low-light photos.

Nice set! I've been listening to his creations lately and it is a lot of fun. I can imagine how excited the crowd gets with some of the cuts.

He is really good at what he does IMO... would love to see him live.
