Hi. I am very new to many of the concepts & equiptment, I would appreciate any advice you can give.

This is the IRON MAN movie statue by Kotobukiya. The piece is about 14" tall. I captured it with a XSi using the Canon 60mm macro lens. The camera was mounted on a tripod.

The back drop is black fabric from JoAnne Fabrics. The lighting is made up of two desk lamps, placed at either side of the statue.

That's a cool looking statue! Iron Man is one of my favorite Marvel comic heroes. :)

Re the lighting, maybe rim lighting the statue from the rear or throwing some colored light (using a colored gel over the light source) on the background will help separate Iron Man from the background.
