View Full Version : Right time to buy a 300D

I'm thinking of buying a 300D for my Mom, as she is looking into getting into photography as a hobby. What will be the right price point to buy a 300D? Or is it worth the extra investment for a 350D? I would imagine that as time went on she would buy more lenses, maybe one or two a year, or something like that.

Thanks, and sorry my first post here is so lame,

I'm going to be buying the 300D next week, reason is... Great camera, only 999.

The 350D is only a couple hundred more, but you should look at the specs and compare the two. I'm going to buy the 300D because its cheaper and I can put the extra bit of money towards better lenses.

You can do alot better than 99 for the 300d - shop online, should not pay more than $700 now!

Right, I saw that it should only cost about $700 with a lens...but will it drop lower than that by say, the summer (June)? If not, I might as well buy it and get used to it now before summer time rolls around. It will likely drop significantly below $700, aka to $600 or so, then I'll wait.

Thanks again,

Skew, if considering the 300D, look at the 10D too - some great deals as well. I just picked mine up (factory demo with 1 yr warranty) for $799. 10D rocks compared to the Rebel (no offense to Rebel users!)

where did you score a factory demo? I'm not opposed to a used camera if it's in good shape

Check www.cameta.com (http://www.cameta.com) they list them on ebay quite often. You can go to the site and look at their Ebay store. Super reliable, something like 38,000+ feedback with 99.8% positive! Had it in a few days. Although technically "used" you could never tell! Probably as close to a new 10D that you can get - especially at this price! I coupled it with a used 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 ll for only $59 and then bought the "Nifty 50" new for $79. Just need a bigger zoom now (looking at a 75-300 for about $199) and I should be set for a while now. Sure there is always "L" glass to consider (Canon's premium lens line up) but some would cost as much as my 10D and more!

Good luck
