I need some recommendations. I am looking for a tripod to fit on a back of a Lowepro Rover II. It has to be light and reasonably small as the main purpose is for travelling and the most it will have on it is a 40D grip with a 24-70 F2.8 L (not mine) but that is the most weight. Extended height is not an issue as that is something I will have to put up with in order to have it light and small. The head doesn't matter as long as it has some sort of quick release system.

I am looking for a cost effective option, so spending $200 is out of the question. I have a manfrotto 190xprob and that is already too heavy to lug around South East Asia.

There are so many tripod makers on the market, its hard to know what is good and what I should stay away from.

Thank you

Have a look in the sticky. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=53864)
If a Manfrotto 190 is too heavy, you'ld need to have a look at a CF tripod. On your budget, that would mean one of the "ebay" sellers (Amvona or so)

Below $200 (including a decent head) might be tough.

Have you looked at the Flashpoint line of tripods offered by Adorama?

The Flashpoint 1128 is $169, made of durable, lightweight carbon fiber and extends to 55" and packed is only 21"

If you have a head you like, you're all set
