Among other things: 1) I am switching from Nikon/Fujifilm to Canon, 2) Just bought a 1D Mark II and some lenses, 3) I shoot women's tennis at UCSB as a hobby, 4) I will be shooting professional boxing every three or four months. I have not yet shot anything with the new camera ... just too busy, sigh. My UCSB Women's Tennis images are at http://UCSBWomensTennis.info and hope that they will improve quite a bit with this new equipment. I would be interested learning from anyone who shoots either tennis or boxing. [I have shot one boxing match, the first I ever saw, and got sweat and blood on my equipment ... the amateur bouts were mild but the pros could easily kill!]

Welcome, Dwight!

We don't get many members from Los Alamos. That is beautiful country around there.

You've started off with some first-rate equipment, and we look forward to seeing what you do with it.

I live very close to a major tennis facility in Indian Wells, California, and have a major pro tournament here every year. Unfortunately, the only place we're allowed to go with cameras is in the upper level of a very large stadium. It's ideal for taking pictures of the tops of the players' heads, and little else.

Id MKII. I couldn't find an envy smilie.

Welcome to the board.

The fast action FPS of the MKII will be nice for catching the punches. Should develope some great shots.

Enjoy this place, these are great people.

Dwight,

welcome to the forum.
Looks like you did your homework before buying your equipment.

As professional boxing normally is not as well lighted as tennis, you might also look at the 85/1.8 and 135/2.0 lenses for low light.

Best regards,
Andy
