Hello Guys,

Just installed the New AVG Security 8 Package and have also instaled the FIREWALL.. however this disables the windows vista 64bit firewall.. Which would you use and why? Shall I re install without the firewall option or is the AVG firewall more secure and better than the Vista one?

Many Thanks.. ;)

I didn't know that AVG had a firewall.

I would probably just use the Windows one if you want one. AVG is a good AV program, but I get leery of these "security" bundles that install a bunch of other stuff. An AV is fine, but if you're more concerned with a firewall than what Windows offers, I would look at using a router between your PC and internet connection. You can have a bit more control there, but I don't see the need for anything too crazy. You could build a linux box as a router/firewall - tons of info out there about that. But I don't think you really need anything that complex.

I assume you're behind a router. Most people are these days. If so, then you can just run the Vista firewall. I don't but for peace of mind I guess you can.

Whichever one uses the least amount of resources :)

enable your router firewall and configure the ports you need.

software firewalls are generally resource hungry and by the time an attack gets to it its within your computer anyway.

Vista is the most secure Windows to date. I would use its own Firewall. And dump the AVG and get something that takes a smaller footprint on your system like NOD32.
