In the photoshop raw converter, under the first slider for white balance is exposure. Is moving this slider the equivalent of changing the F stop, just without changing depth of field? Is it the same as changing shutter speed?
Thanks

yes it is changing f/stops either +/- the number displayed. No DOF is not adjusted.

Exposure is Exposure, you cant change "Physical" aspects of the shot, The Exposure slider is the same thing as messing with the AEB on the camera. I guess the best way to explain it is like nudging the sensor's sentivity down or up. Try not to get confused that Changing Aperture/Shutter darkens and lightens the shot, thats just a by-product, exposure is as I said nudging the sentivity down or up, based on the data captured by the sensor.

I am reading Bruce Fraser's book "Camera RAW with Adobe Photoshop CS" and I am still not certain if that is the case - although everything points that way. The exposure control also is the white clipping control while the Shadows control is the black clipping control - if I really simplifies matters. The best is to get the book and read it.

Nic is right. The Shadows slider affects you black point and the Exposure slider affects your white point. The Brightness slider should also be considered when playing with over or under exposure. In truth, all three need to be combined but they are powerful in what they can do.
