So I have my nice new shiny 70-200 f2.8. Lovely.

But I am having a lot of trouble getting it and its hood into my Nova 5 bag with my 20D, 17-40L, 100mm macro, 380EX flash and 50mm f1.8. They all fit just, but the hoods won't fit as well, even when reversed.

Any suggestions - or is it time to upgrade to a backpack as should bags just aren't any good for long glass?

If you are looking for the smallest backpack that will fit everything in your sig, my LowePro Micro Trekker 200 would do it. In mine, I have, 20D + grip with 300/4L attached, 16/2.8, 50/1.8, 85/1.8, 18-55, 28-75, 580EX flash in the front pocket, and a few other small things in the inside pockets. All lens have the hoods attached and reversed. It's only about $60, and comes in black, green or red:

Well, I can't get my 17-40L hood to fit comfortably in any of my bags. I've got the Nova 5 Here it is with all my lenses except the 70-200 although I can fit it in there.

I got a Tamrac 5258 (http://************/3muo4) It holds all the equipment in my sig. It is pretty dang heavy when full though. ;)

It does not fit in my Novas either, I just carry it in its own canon bag. It's a hassle, but not worth changing bags now.......

Do you put your 70-200 where you normally have the 100-400 ?

I didn't think the 70-200 would be happy standing up ... I thought of that but to me it just doesn't seem to fit? Just a shade too long.

pcasciola -Yeah I'm sort of resigned to getting a backpack. As I may get a 300/4 or 400/5.6 soon I might go to the next size up so I don't have to buy yet another bag (this will be #5 ...).
