Stonehenge at the end of October, shortly before a deluge of horizontal hail put a premature end to a trip with the camera (and family) that I'd been looking forward to. I exposed so as to not blow out that sky, attached are the processed and straight from camera ( RAW, resized and saved as jpeg only) images. What do you think I've done right and wrong.

im gonna assume the second one is the edit of the first - i like what youve done - maybe add a bit of warmth? accentuate the sun on the fields behind... the pic feels very cool to me. also punch a bit of contrast into the clouds - since they are so low make them look heavier - but dont make them as dark as the stones - just a suggestion?

i like the pano aspect too, overall nice job

Nice job on a back lit scene. You really brought out the detail all around. I see that you cloned out the figures in the background. While you're at it, you may as well clone out the bush or trees on the horizon on the right side.

Warmed up a touch and more contrast in the clouds. I've decided against cloning out anything else for the time being, those tree's will still be there tomorrow, those visitors won't. Having said that I do find the bump on top of the centre stone irritating!

The shot -- particularly your last edit -- is truly wonderful. You've captured the feeling there perfectly.

Great Job! Love these.

I really like the "final" edit.

I like each edit better than the previous. How'd you get all the people out of your shot? I was trying to shoot the bean in chicago today, but at any moment there were 50+ people in the way...

Probably the weather.

Nothing like bad weather to keep the tourists out of a perfectly good photo ;)

Thanks all for the great response. Being October in England there weren't too many people around, I just waited til most were out of the shot.
Yes Derek, you may use it as a desktop if you wish.

The transformation you've done is quite incredible!

Thanks, but I wouldn't call it incredible. Basically all I've done once I'd seen the picture was try not to lose any detail in the sky when I took it and then use a few basic PP techniques I've picked up from magazines, books and here to bring up the detail in the foreground.
However I'm very happy at the response, this has been my best received picture yet!

I think the work you've done on the shot is very good indeed considering the original. I think the one single thing I might try is to use the saturation tool to bump the yellows just a tich into the red (and/or desaturated the yellows just a bit).

Either way, classic image and wonderful edit...well done. I'd have a poster size print made of that one and have it hanging here in the office.

Peace,
Jim
