Hey guys,

I don't have a backpack yet and was looking at this one..fiance says she might get it for me for Christmas :), but what I was wondering was if it is truly water repellant like the descriptios states. I would like something that is water repellant so I can just pack up and not worry about my gear getting soaked by the crazy thunderstorms we have over here. The price and size of it was really appealing so if it is not truly weatherproof..is there something similar in price that might be a better deal and offer better protection?

Oh and I searched the forum and the only thing I see is people recommending it, but no one mentions anything about it's weather protection.

Thank you!!

I have a 200EG. I would not take it in a real downpour, and fortunately I have not been caught in a surprise downpour situation without an umbrella handy. I think it is OK for a light to moderate sprinkle, which I have encountered several times. Water resistant and water repellent are two terms used in its product description on B&H for example. Water proof is not a term used that I have seen. I know you are not asking about dipping or dropping it in water, but at the same time a soaking rain can come close to the same effect. That I would not want to risk or test.

Everything is weatherproof when you stick it inside that trash bag that you keep tucked into one of the pockets. That trash bag also makes a nice ground cover for situations like when you want to get down low without getting covered in mud.

Wonder if I should cover the backpack in a trash bag for better protection..;)..hmmmm...You can't beat the price and that is why I'm attracted to it so much...I won't be shooting in rain, but it never hurts to at least be somewhat protected in the event that it would start to rain :).

Thanks for the comments! Anyone else have any personal experience with this backpack and rain?

I have one

Looking at the material and the way it is made, I would not walk around in the rain with it. If it is just a little drizzle, I think you would be fine as long as you aren't getting soaked.

I guess it'll cost more than $30 to buy a backpack that's soak proof, huh? :(...I don't plan on being soaked by rain, but with the weird weather out here one never knows. It does claim it's water repellant so I assume that should be good up to a certain extent anyways. I think I'll go with the 200EG..not having a camera backpack sucks when you have to keep carrying your flash around in one hand.

Thanks for the comments and info.!

Thanks for the picture! Looks like that's definately more room than I need, but that's a good thing. All I have are my XTi, 18-55, 55-250 and a Vivtar flash, so this should last me for a little while until I decide to buy some more :). Does this have a tripod holder by any chance?

Thanks again!

is that 50d gripped in there?

Yes

I had to put it there because it wouldn't fit/zip if I put it at the top where the flash is. That is my only complaint. The XTi fit though when it was gripped.
