My sister's A70 has developed a problem, the zoom has jammed open and won't retract even when powered off. Cause: her toddler pushing buttons. it hasn't been dropped or anything. is there any comnbination of buttons that might have caused this? Anything she can do? I can't look myself because she's in Sydney and I'm in the UK... We'd appreciate some ideas.

You could try takng out the batteries for a few minutes then putting them back in. That might reset it. I'm not sure if it will work, but, it's harmless to try it.

Well you asked for ideas so here you go. I've got an S70 and sometimes it won't power up, thus not extending the lens when you open the lens cover. Problem is kinda/sorta along the lines with your problem. What I think I've figured out is that the switch that you activate by opening the lens cover sticks from time to time. Here's what I've done and do this at your own risk. I tap the camera on the heel of my hand two or three times open the lens cover and, whalla, it powers up. I'm thinking that the light jarring frees the stuck switch but then maybe I'm crazy but so far it has always worked.

The first thing I'd try however is to reset all settings to default, get out your manual..... If there was something that the kid did by pushing buttons this will solve it.

As a side note I also have had the auto horizontal/vertical/landscape/portrait switch stick. I tap the camera on the heel of my hand to fix that too. Yes, I beat my camera for a variety of problems. ROFL.
