1) My Orion EQ-3M Dual-Axis Electric Drive for my AstroView GEM just won't work anymore. I live in Brazil so sending it back to fix isn't a viable option. Is this equipment something an electronics expert might be able to fix? I saw a rather large IC chip inside, is there a chance that it is shorted? Should I try to fix it or just buy a new one?
2) I have a chance to trade my TeleVue Ranger for an Orion SkyView Pro 100mm (FL 600mm f/6). I believe my Ranger is APO and the SVP is Achromat. But the Ranger is push-pull barrel + helicoidal focusing and the SVP is Rack and Pinion. The Ranger can only be collimated at factory while the SVP can be collimated by the user. The SVP is also 100mm while the Ranger is 70mm. Which one is the better refractor?
