A little slice of Calvert, Texas, one hot summer afternoon.

Not sure about the angle on this one.
Probably would have been more effective if it filled the frame more. It just feels a little bit "chopped off"...

Liking the rusted up street sign however. Makes for an interesting subject for sure!

Definitely a no on the angle. It's too extreme.

Of course, I am aware that this certainly doesn't meet conventional ideas of "good" composition. But when I took the traditional "good composition" shot, which had the sign squarely on the rule of thirds grid, the result bored me. So I was trying to make a play on the word "slice." You know, like a "slice" of pie, which is narrower at one end than it is at the other.

Hmmm .... maybe it didn't have the effect I intended.

I've been thinking of doing a whole series of shots like this and putting them in a portfolio entitled "Slices of Texas." Just ordinary slices of ordinary life, seen from a different angle.

It probably would have been more effective if you had the sign taking up more space, closer to the top left corner. There's just too much space to the left and it just looks cut off is all.

Yeah, rules are meant to be broken, and I don't particularly follow these rules with any kind of discipline, but sometimes certain things work, sometimes they don't!

That's what makes it fun I suppose!
