Please, be brutal; I can't learn without criticism.

The subject has no ground; the foot is cut off, there's no bottom. Looking up at someone who's looking down, still above the photographer. The purpose of the water bottle is undetermined, but it's very eye catching because of the reflection and refraction. Plenty of diagonals that lead to or around the face. The face is in the top center of the frame.
What is the point or intent behind the photo? Looks like a rich boy with shaggy hair, fancy sweater and unmarked water bottle is having a slightly off day but without any definite expression on the face.

^ Yeah, I agree about the lack of ground and his foot getting cut off - I would like to see more of the foot. Also the model's head being top center doesn't do it for me either.

It's a low contrast and generally sad scene enhanced by the overcast sky and predominantly dark cast. However the subject's expression doesn't have any effect whatsoever on the mood.

To be honest with you all, I had no options in setting this shot up. We had been on the river for 4 days now; had to do a rescue in class 4 rapids (I swear to you, I have never seen whirlpools like this before, and I never will again. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I tell you that it ate a boat; IT ATE A ****ING KAYAK RIGHT OUT FROM UNDER SOMEONE). It had poured for two out of the four days; everyone's mood was in the gutter. To top it off, he had a migraine and couldn't see straight. He's not rich by any means :D.
Thank you though, those were the comments I have been searching for for a long time.

Did you try cropping it differently?

I brightened things up a bit and boosted contrast.

That last edit seems noisy and pixilated.
Geno- the reason I left it as a full crop is because I liked the mood set by the overcast day and the leading lines from the background. I can see where I went wrong with the composition, however.

I'm not too fond of the pose at all. It's an awkward position and I can't tell if he's squatting or sitting. I don't like the last edit, it's making his face and the clouds look weird. I agree I'd like to see more of the foot. It looks like it's meant to be a dramatic photo, so a more dramatic look on his face might've topped it off. It gives me mixed signals.

I don't like the cropped version, at all.

I think it would work better with a little post... make him pop a little more against the background.
I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to experiment.

Like I said before, it would be a little hard to recreate this particular shot :P. Take a look at my second post in the thread.
