From the Nikkei this morning:
"TOKYO (Nikkei)--Digital camera shipments from eight major manufacturers are now projected to be 6% lower than initial estimates and reach 106.4 million units for this fiscal year, signaling that a market that has expanded rapidly is beginning to lose steam."

How should we interpret this? Lower prices perhaps?

I'm not surprised, it's inline with the rest of the world economy.

Canon usually sends me an email when ever they have a special, that is to say I get maybe one a month or every two months, in the last few weeks it seems like every few days, they've got the rebate going on the lenses, now on the 40D, 50D and Xt cameras, today smaller printers, when the economy gets down, advertise, offer specials, it tends to work at least to some detree.

Hard to say if this means the market has saturated and digital adoption has peaked or if this is due to the messed up economies worldwide.

Interesting.... Canon and Nikon have both increased their advertising on TV (with the Christmas shopping season rapidly approaching) at the same time that Japan has declared that it is now in recession. Price watching on some to the prized lenses may prove interesting.
