All Canon still cameras that feature the movie clip mode are really only able to produce movie "clips." This is because while the camera is recording, it saves the clips to a buffer memory and then after 10 to 30 second,
(depending on resolution), the camera quits movie mode and writes to the CF.
There are other articles in the forum that discuss this.

If the camera is designed to do so, I'm sure there would be way to do so. But, the Canon's appear to not be able write to the storage media WHILE data is being written to the buffer. It has to be capable of doing so before "unlocking" anything is possible.

The only way of doing this is to record a series of 30-second clips. There would be gaps of several seconds between each of the clips to allow for them to be written to memory. Then you could use a program such as VirtualDub to stitch the individual clips together into a single AVI movie. However, the AVI capabilities of these Canon digital cameras have real limitations of resolution. They are useful for some purposes but let us not mistake them for a camcorder, which may be what you really are looking for.
