Debated putting this in the kids section, but figured the shot was more about trying to get a long exposure of the sparklers than the boys so stuck them here.

Took a few handheld shots last night, trying to keep the camera as steady as I could on some long exposures - the shots of the boys are both 2s and that of my wife 6s - whilst the family mucked about with some sparklers. I really need a tripod, but hopefully Santa may bring me one!

Obviously the family were moving so they'll be blurred and I appreciate the background has some motion blur from me. Other than using a tripod on the next occasion, is there anything else people might suggest on these type of shots?

I would love to know too. I've tried and failed miserably. Nice shots! Would be cool to only have motion blur on the arms.

Thanks 0ozma.

Had a play around in Photoshop trying to make something funky out of the sparklers as I figured they would be easy to pick up with the magic wand tool and came up with this:

well i would be lieing if i told you "i knew what i did". i just set it to M mode and took several tries. i remember doing a 30" F4.5 ISO 100 custom WB. basicly you need a second person to help frame it up. but if your alone, you can focus on a certain point and then run out in front of it. still learning, i feel like child that just got a new box of crayons.

here is one i just did.

you can see how i went from moving slow to fast.
