To those of you in Maryland... I was wondering what some of your favorite places to shoot are. I mostly looking for places on the north east side of the state (Harford County). I work up in that area and thats about the only time I can steal time to escape for photos. There are alot of places I can think of around the state like Ellicot City, downtown, Savage, Harpers Ferry. I have gone to Rock Springs Park and A little around Havre De Grace. Looking for some other suggestions.

You can try Atkisson Dam (Singer Rd.), Conowingo, Port Deposit, Ladew Topiary Gardens, Long Green valley (Baldwin), and what's left of the farmland around Mountain Rd. (RT 152).

Ladew will start to develop in a month or so. Some of the other areas can be real nice with snow on the ground.

Hope this helps.

Sugarloaf Mountain is nice, also...if you're willing to travel, Centralia Pennsylvania is beautiful.

As for Maryland, I don't really know. I lived there for 2 years, but it wasn't until I got to Japan that I got into photography as much as I am now. I will be back in the DC/VA corridor soon enough...

Thanks for the additional suggestions Rick.... I actually spend alot of time on rt 152. Never knew there was a dam on singer road. There are some neat places like Fashion Way but hard to find places to park. I should try back at Longview Gardens this year as well.

Central PA is very pretty. Last time I was up in PA was for the Chevy show at Carlisle. That was an easy 600 pictures for me. lol

Go down Singer Rd next to Mountain Branch GC. You will generally be going downhill until you get to Winters Run. The dam is upstream about a quarter mile. Used to be a small parking area on the other side of the stream with a pair of restrooms, but that is long gone. The bridge was rather interesting, but I think that was washed away by a big storm some years ago and replaced with something more boring.

Try the AACA Car show in Hershey in early October:
http://www.aaca.org/hershey/fallmeet.htm

Its an antique car show with cars being judged as well as a huge swap meet. There are show cars going back to 1910 or so. The criteria is generally that cars must be 35 years old, so most muscle cars are eligible. There are individual classes for cars like Corvette, Mustang, and T-Bird. Between the car show and the swap meet, it cannot all be covered in one day even with no photography. If you like cars and car-related images you will not be lacking for available shots.

Have Fun,

How about Plumpton Park Zoo in Rising Sun (not exacty San Diego, but . . . ), or look for activities around Fair Hill - horse shows/events, sheep-to-shawl, Scottish games . . . You're pretty close to Amish country as well. If you want to venture more into Pennsylvania, there's Brandywine Battlefield Park in Chadds Ford - a few miles east of Longwood Gardens.

I will have to go driving around that area again. Luckily all the roads have cleared up now. I had no idea there was a zoo in rising sun... I meant to give my old school friend a call. He has a petting zoo down south. He has mountain lions and such. You cant exactly pet those though.

The car show sounds interesting. I am a little more partial to Chevys. Camaros more then anything. I would say 90% of my pictures from Carlisle were Camaros.Perhaps I have obsessive compulsive issues.

i look forward to warm weather. Need to find some large rocks to climb. Hopefully will be able to get some nice landscape shots out of that.

Woah!! Fellow Harford Counti-ans? Cool! I was born-n-raised in that area (Joppatowne), now living in OH. All my family still lives in those parts as well (White Marsh, Edgewood, etc)

Personally, I always enjoyed going over to Balt. Co. for some good pics in the Fall or Spring. The miles and miles of bleach-white fencelines proven to be a beautiful contrast to the vibrant colors of the Fall leaves. :) Might even be able to get some good horse pics, too

I MUST recommend traveling up to Gettyasburg in the Fall for an entire day, possibly even weekend. TONS and tons of historical sights, downtown is rustic and beautifully restored, and the battlefields are always a site to revel in. :)

Not quite Harford County, but there are some good shots to be had around Loch Raven - if you can find a place to park. Back in the day, it used to be a 'quest' to find all five bridges over Loch Raven (without using a map). They all had steel superstructures, and were fairly interesting to look at (photograph?). By now most of them have been replaced with boring concrete versions. But there remains a lot of shoreline and wooded paths.

Have Fun,

P.S. Born in Highlandtown, raised in Overlea, still living in the same general area - but somehow the name 'White Marsh' has taken over.

Hmmm I havent had much luck in my rounds recently. I didnt come across the Dam but I think I know where you are talking about. They redid the whole road area and built up this huge wall around the bend. Its right around Fashion Way which follows the streamline of Winters Run.

There seems to be plenty interesting places to shoot just no place to park. Was up in Conowingo and Port Deposit today. There is no place to stop. I would love to go down to the rocks for shots. Guess thats not allowed anymore. Port Deposit looks like it has a lot of potential though.
