About 3 or 4 times over the past month or so, my machine has completely frozen. No errors, no blue screen of death, just completely frozen to the point where I have to pull the plug. Every time it happened, I was in Firefox editing a message on POTN. I was using Firefox 0.9.2, but just upgraded to 1.0.1.
Has anyone else experienced this with the forum editor in Firefox?

I upgraded to the latest firefox a short while ago. I haven't had any problems at all. Have you tried the same thing with IE?

I never had the problem with IE, but I rarely use it anymore so that's not really fair to say. It probably has only happened once out of every 50-60 posts, and with the older version 0.9.2, so hopefully now that I have 1.0.1 it won't happen any more. I was just curious to see if it is a Firefox/POTN issue, or just my machine.

There are bunches of us who use Firefox, so I doubt it's a problem. Probably something unique to your machine.

Thanks. I knew I couldn't be the only one. I've been using this machine for over two years now, and it rarely locks up, except for the past several months since I started using Firefox. I put it on my kids machines and they have had a lot less problems ever since. The lockups are a drop in the bucket compared to the junk everyone was picking up through IE.
I just installed Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and I'm letting it do a deep scan of everything. I have almost 1TB of storage on this machine, so I think it might take some time. I had been running Spybot S&D, but I think that is not really being updated much anymore.
Thanks again.

I ended up turning off my media drives which I have connected via USB, so that saved it from having to scan 500GB of stuff. I was happy to see that it only came up with 2 things aside from the all the browser cookies. I guess Firefox really does make a difference, because I installed it a few months ago, ran Spybot S&D once and after all this time my machine was still fairly clean. There are only 1 or 2 sites I need IE for, but I may look into installing the Firefox plug-in that allows you to spoof any other browser and version that you want, which will get me off IE for good.
I also run Kerio Personal Firewall which I highly recommend. I found it more customizable than ZoneAlarm and a little easier to use. They both do the same thing, but I found ZoneAlarm a little limited for configuring custom ports and stuff. They may have added this capability by now, but in the version I had you could only specify a port by selecting a service, so only standard ports were supported.
Thanks again, Bloo Dog. I like this Ad-Aware much better than Spybot S&D so far.
