Hey,

Still planning to get the R200, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to get the CIS for it. Many people have said that it's an awful idea to let the printer sit there not printing anything for a week.

I know a reputable CIS system for relatively cheap (~$100) on eBay...

The reason I wish to get the CIS is to save on ink costs.

However, if I'm forced to print a few times a week, I'd be printing way more than I want to. Photo paper's expensive, ya'know!

So... what do you guys think?

What the heck is CIS? How about an example printer? Anything?

I ignored this because I don't know what CIS is.

I take it thats a TLA (Three Letter Acronym) for Continuous Ink Feed System? Unless you are printing fairly high volumes I would not even think of it. We have one on a large format colour system at work and its a continuous pain in the rear.

I use a CIS system on my old EPson 900N. As long you can keep it in a cool place, and away from direct sunlight or any light with UV you will be okay.

i just purchased one from "JWSales" or something like that off ebay for my son's R300 and it works great, hes printed almost 200 letter sized photographs for school and personal use and his ink is still 50% full. Its an amazing technology and the ink appears almost the same as genuine ink. I custom profiled it a bit to match it at like 99% so were satisfied.

I also have a CIS for my i9900 for personal prints and its absolutely flawless, and im thinking of upgrading to a better one for when i purchase the i9950. im so excited!

Yes, this is the Continuous Ink System I'm talking about. The exact same one that Avlonthas has for his son. However, my original questions still stands... not using it for a week, would that be a problem?

Well he uses his daily so im not sure, but he hasnt run into problems yet. I have also purchased the same type of CIS system but an 8 tank one for my Canon i9900, which i use only for personal prints and it works great, so clogs, so problems as of yet and i leave it there for 6-8 days at a time, since i usually only print on saturdays, cuz during the week im shooting or editing.

Also I noticed u live in Toronto too. Well for personal photo's i dont go out and buy like some ultra expensive kodak or epson paper for prints, rather I buy Staples Professional Glossy paper for 4x6, and Staples Premium Glossy Paper for 8.5x11. They both come in 100 packs and Staples recently slashed there prices for each pack from 28 bucks to 14.99 per pack, so basically you are getting Two for the price of one. I dont know if its just a weekly sale (if it is, then it ended today) but it said it was a price cut, so maybe its permanent for now. I bought 4 packs of 4x6, 3 packs of 8.5x11, and 2 packs of 5x7 and they offer great quality, almost rivalling Epson and Kodak papers which is why i use them for personal prints, so its only costing me 14-18 cents (if u include taxes) per print in terms of paper and since i have a CIS system, the ink is about 10cents/ml, so i can get a nice 25 cents per 8.5x11 print on my canon i9900. I have prints that i have had for a month on staples paper (unfortunetly i paid the full price for them a month ago lol) and havent seen any fading. No idea how long it will last in the long term, but that dont matter to me since i usually only use them for a few weeks then stash them away or throw them out (I usually just use them to show friends and/or test prints, or sometimes to show customers what the pics look like, and if they want they can buy a larger print (which i then switch to the genuine inks and Ilford/Epson/Kodak papers. Although who knows, if the paper has any longevity to it, I might go exclusivly Staples.

I have tryed Staples paper when i was in the US a few months back when i ran out and i noticed it wasnt near the quality that the Staples Business Depot in Canada provides. I dont know if this is coincedence or if the American brand is different, but the Canadian stuff rocks.
