Hey, i just recieved my startup kit for my strobist try at photography. i basically ordered the strobist package off the MPEX.com SW1 website. being that they were out of the vivtar 285 hv i ordered that from amazon.com the kit ran me about 200 + some change all together. At first glance as i opened the package i was very excited to dive right in. the stand they provided seemed very study but the peices to tighten the poles up seemed very weak. on first try the Cactus triggers worked great since i still am an amatuer but did misfire a fiew times. now the vivtar i have really enjoyed. i like the different setting u can put the head on, just as the WIDE flash Normal flash and TELEPHOTO flash. this came usfull almost as i had a grid or a snoot. the only thing that i got extra was a 45" flash through umbrella which i used in half the pictures provided.
here are some shots that i took of my friends through the night.
most shots were just shots to see how things would come out so i learned throughout the night and tryed new things. so most are just test play shots. only a few i was happy about

tomarrow i get a background and im going to get a small continuous light from home depot to top it off and try my hand at that!
