Going to buy some flashes

What I should be looking at as far as flashes? I primarily shoot automotive photography so I'm looking for one or two flashes that'll just fill in the dark areas (at first). I've got a budget of about $250 to do this too.

So I was wondering what resources I should look at to research this purchase a little more. Any good books, websites, etc.? Also, would it be better to go with one 430EX for $220 or two 220's and just get a second later on?

I think the 430EX would be a better choice due to the ability of the swivling head
