Hey guys, went down to a skate park yesterday with a mate to get some shots... it was 34 degrees (celcius) and it was dry as hell, it was challenging but worth it.

I like the look of the top one,,, but a skate park needs skaters dude! :-)

Next time ask the BMX dude to do a bunny hop over your head while you take a photo.
Then laugh at him because his trick is called a bunny-hop (make sure you have a car nearby - better to be IN the car and driving past - I've seen BMX bandits... ).
I also like the top one more. The bottom one might look better with selective black and white (my style).

I find the tree a little too distracting in the second one for some reason.
I do like the colours although maybe a little dark on my uncalibrated screen.

There's a skate park near my place, I was wondering if I should get them to go over me too... but I decided against it :p
but I might go down there some time though :)

If they are actually good, they could probably do it. Skaters and the such are actually pretty nice people I've found (unless they're drunk or on TV - or both).
The second one needs selective colour I tells ya.
Something like this:

Not a bad idea actually, so keep/inhance the graf and the bike but get the rest in black and white?

That's what I'd do. Go to my flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/aidav/) and you'll see some I've done (it's my favourite style for WA shots). It draws the eye to the important parts and then peoples eyes explore the rest of the scene.
It would be a good technique on this shot as there are only really 2 things to look at, but all the colour, the tree etc. in the background is a bit distracting.
Use masks in photoshop.

I think the park near my place is just full of a bunch of kids... but will check it out when I get the time :)

Masks are pretty easy.
Always start by making 2 duplications of your orginal image (one to keep as a background in case something goes wrong, the other 2 for the effect).
Convert the top one to black and white.
Hit the mask button.
Select the mask.
Use the paint brush in black, to take away the mask, white to put it back in).

Thanks for the compliment about the photos on flickr BTW. :)

Kids are usually OK. So long as you're not trying to tell them to go away, they are usually OK (don't forget to bring a gun though)
@Nic - No worries mate
Notice 100% of the people who've posted here (so far) are either in Australia or come from Australia.
Cool man... I mean, cobber, mate, by crickey.

And did anyone really think that skinny, tomboyish chick would amount to much?

Those other guys (Angelo D'Angelo and James Lugton) sure made it big though.
Not sure who that 15 year old girl was. Apparently she married some big star in Hollywood. Not together with that guy, apparently he went crazy and joined a cult or something.

I do remember finding her someone intriguing even back then.
I think the first feature I saw her in was "Dead Calm"

I first saw her (we're talking about Nicole Kidman BTW) in BMX bandits (that was an Australian film). I loved that film because walkie-talkies are totally RAD!

I know that's not a walkie-talkie, but the old phones were rad too.

Was it a feature film or a TV Series?

Ah! I see.
She was born in Hawaii actually. So she could be president one day!
She was in an Australian soap opera called A Country Practice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Country_Practice) which was very popular.
She only did small roles in that.

I saw her first feature (BMX Bandits) but I've never seen Dead Calm. Dead Calm was her first big U.S. release.
Anyway..... nice photos.
