Another picture, 3 images (jpeg) merged with an older version of photomatix. Taken with my older camera, a rebel xt and i think i had a sigma 10-20 on it for this picture. Again, more of the interesting clouds in Reno that I love so much. ( these clouds look this way, naturally. this shot wasnt taken over a long period of time, just a 3 round burst.)

zack,
Nice photo, the clouds are cool! I hope you don't mind but I am posting a revision of your image showing your original image on the right half and my color corrected version on the left half. I think using the levels tool helps to bring the sky colors back to a more natural state and removes the color cast present.

This shows the usefulness of HDR in what could be considered documentary photography.
A beautiful detailed record of a place and time that you want to look at even for its own sake.

Wow, another great Render. You sure got lot's of subject matter out there. And while you've been out shooting all these for the past week or two, it's been gloomy, raining and snowing here. Consider yourself lucky. :)

Is the level tool with Photomatix or Photoshop? Link to how you merged the 2 together?
I thought the original was nice! Serrator really brought the image to life!

In Photoshop, Image>Adjustments>Levels. In the histogram, you see a slider below it with three pippers. Slide the left one towards the center a bit, to cut out the clipped highlights, not much, just a tiny bit usually. Slide the right one toward the center, to cut off the clipped blacks. This one usually goes a longer way, to as far as where it starts going up the hill sharper. Then slide the center one, usually left, to bring up the brightness if it needs. Levels is a nice little tool, fast and easy to use and it does a nice job on fixing lighting problems.

Thanks guys. I almost always find with my HDR/TM efforts once created from Photomatix or more recently now using Essential HDR that taking them into Photoshop is part of my workflow. I always do my noise reduction and level adjustments here to help remove the color casts or gray plague that can occur with this type stuff.
canonloader is on the right track with how I sometimes do the levels adjustments, but in most cases I do a little trick I learned many years ago that gives me even better results than I can get than with just doing the manual slider movements when you have a true black/white area such as this photo. I had done a youtube video a while back for an article I wrote that shows exactly how to do this...check it out here:
