So I am looking to do an off camera strobe with my 20d. I have a cheap flash I bought 2 years ago with a hot shoe. I know i should really upgrade my flash and stuff but im a poor college student with no money :( but my question is can I hook up my flash to my cam by building this cord here http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/04/lighting-101-build-pro-pc-cord-pt-2.html ??? Thanks for the help

That depends, what kind of flash do you have? What kind of connection does it have?
Do you have a hotshoe to PC for you 20D?

We need a little more info in order to help you out. Specifically, tell us what kind of connection you are coming from, and what kind you want to go to.

whats the cheap flash that you're planning to use? Coz i think if you plan to use a sync cord to trigger a flash thats not compatible with your 20d its just like mounting it on your 20d's hotshoe which would pretty much fry either your camera or your flash or both. unless of course you use a wireless trigger to fire it.

You will want to check that hotshoe adapter carefully.

My dollar is that it is not a hotshoe adapter designed for a FLASH (no actual electrical contacts where the flash foot sits in the hotshoe).

I think it is a hotshoe designed for a CAMERA to provide a PC connector for a camera that does not have one.

If I am correct that hotsoe will provide no function on a flash.

Pull the hotshoe off the camera and take a pic of the actual shoe area.

Again, my dollar is on the possibility there is no center contact there.

Enjoy! Lon
